FCJ Excellence Awards 2017 Judges’ Report
As the only national competition for local newspapers, the FCJ Excellence Awards is growing steadily. There has been an increase of about twenty percent in the number of entries for the 2017 Awards compared to the 2016 Awards. About 130 journalists of more than 80 local newspapers, in all nine provinces, entered this year. The general impression of the judges is that the local newspapers are still very much alive in South Africa. They are indeed serving their communities very well.
